AGRICULTURE and
VOLUNTEERING
GüneÅŸane Foundation owns a 35-acre agricultural land located between the ancient city of Assos and PaÅŸaköy. This farm, where we carry out the foundation's activities, also serves as a site for agricultural production. Our primary crops include grapes, walnuts, olives, and lavender. To provide healthy and natural food to the children we host on the farm, we also have various fruit trees and vegetable gardens.
In our production processes, we avoid using synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or genetically modified seeds. Instead, we practice biodynamic farming, an ancient agricultural method that views the farm as a self-sustaining organism. For our farming practices, we use the calendar developed by Maria Thun, who conducted the first detailed studies on biodynamic farming, based on the movements of planets and constellations.
From spring to fall, we are involved in planting, tending, and harvesting a variety of crops. For example, in spring, we prune the grapevines and prepare grape leaves for preservation. In June, we harvest lavender, producing essential oils, lavender sticks, and sachets. At the end of summer, we harvest grapes to make molasses, and in the fall, we collect walnuts and olives. We transform the olives into olive oil on the same day they are harvested. Additionally, to improve soil fertility, we create compost and apply biodynamic farming preparations. We also care for the chickens, dogs, and bees that live on the farm, and we carry out gardening, repairs, and maintenance tasks throughout the year.
Especially during harvest periods, we rely on volunteer support. We are a member of TaTuTa, Turkey’s WWOOF network ("World Wide Opportunities On Organic Farms"). Through this network, we invite volunteers interested in agricultural production and gaining experience to our farm. Volunteers are provided with accommodation, and we share tasks such as cooking and cleaning through cooperative work. If you are interested in volunteering at GüneÅŸane Farm, you can register with the TaTuTa network and contact us. More information about the application and registration process can be found on the WWOOF Turkey page. You can also view GüneÅŸane’s TaTuTa profile here.
